Ayurveda means ‘the science of life’ in Sanskrit.

This article is dedicated to understanding what is ayurveda. Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that originates in India. Currently in India, a large number of the population still practices Ayurveda. Ayurveda means ‘the science of life’ in Sanskrit. Ayu means ‘life’ or ‘everyday living’ and Veda is ‘knowledge’. To this day the Veda transmit the knowledge of Ayurveda. The Veda is the most ancient body of literature existing in the world. This system of well-being has been practiced in India for over 5000 years.

Ayurveda is not only a science but also a religion and a philosophy of life. We use the term religion here to express a certain types of beliefs and disciplines, which lead towards higher states of existence. The word philosophy here refers to the love for truth or Samkhya. Two words form Samkhya sat or ‘truth’ and khya ‘knowledge’.
